CCW problems
I was wondering how many GIMers have CCW permits...and have any of you had any problems in your state carrying out among the general public, or have you been denied access to businesses or public buildings?

Re: CCW problems
I carry in Georgia... a real Pain In The A**.
The "laws" about "places off limits" are whacked, and none of the cops, the legislators, or the courts agree on what is "lawful". I do try to stay legal. |
Re: CCW problems
NM allows CCW in businesses that sell package liquor...but NOT open liquor sales...so Walmart okay
Any business that does not want CCW must post a clearly visible sign in the front of the store... We had a shooting in a Walmart about 6 months ago...man with restraining order against him jumped the Deli counter and proceeded to stab his ex-wife several times...she screams...citizen with CCW pulls pistol and empties it into the guy killing him...saves the woman's life...police rule it justifiable...Walmart considers lawsuit against him...decides to drop it when public honors him as "good-guy" hero...Hooray! first successful test of new CCW laws in NM. Walmart now has NO CCW signs posted at all entrances...and those signs are starting to crop up all over town...:smokin: |
Re: CCW problems
Here in PA carrying in schools is a no no,in court houses they are left in a locked box(you take the key).I carry mine in the bank & everywhere else.

Re: CCW problems
The acronym for CCW should be 'CCWCFY'.
"Carry, Conceal so We Can Find You" when the we come for you. Maranatha, |
Re: CCW problems
No problems here, except gun free kill zones, er, school zones. Somebody needs to get that law ripped from the books, it's a PITA and it gets students killed. I try to have as little contat wit the government as possible so no problems with public buildings for me.
I'm not saying I carry in the post office but everybody in my area has and grew up around guns. As long as the staff remains locals no honest citizen is likely to get hassled at my branch. Heh, a friend was picking up a gun related package from the UPS store. The lady behind the counters eyes him and asks if it's gun accessories in the box. He say yes and she says "cool!" and shows him her .380 carry piece. "They" want you to think you're a lone freak for having a gun. In reality it is quite common. Most of the young people who staff the registers at every store and restaraunt will cut you some slack, too. They are mostly sick of the police state just like you and either won't care or will think its cool. Otherwise TPTB already know who you are and that you have guns or are a political dissident or other undesirable and they'll declare you an enemy combatant and come get you whether you have the permit or not. Better to have, common crminals are a more immediate threat and you can't hide from the crazies anyway. Confidence is everything. If you're self conscious carrying, which you will be at first, you'll get people suspicious. If you're comfortable and relaxed, which you will be in time, nobody will notice any buldges. |
Re: CCW problems
Here in Ohio, we can carry in banks because they're not government buildings. Unless the bank is posted as CPZ. But most banks in my AO allow ccw.
Where you have to be carefull is a large building. If there's any type of federal office in the building, we can't carry. If it's state government we just have to stay off that particular floor. I will not carry in a large building... |
Re: CCW problems
A little tough for me. About all i do is go to work and my kids football games. My company doesn't allow any firearms on the property so i could get fired for even having it in my car. And i can't carry at all the schools where i go watch my kids.

Re: CCW problems
No problems here in Kentucky. Lots of businesses have no gun signs up, which I and everyone else I know that has one always ignore. All they can do is force you to leave, if discovered. For the most part hospitals, governmental buildings and bars are the only establishments where a concealed weapon can not legally be carried.
I know a lot of GIMers are paranoid about obtaining a CCW license, justifiably so is some ways, but I highly recommend it. It is your right and, although my opinion may be flawed, I believe that the more folks out there exercising that right, the clearer message it sends to those in the government who would like to see it taken away. That and I think it the responsibility of every adult to have the means to defend themselves and their family. If you are packing around a gun illegally and are caught, you just become another one of those gun crime statistics and you give them a cheap excuse to persecute you. Just my worthless two pennies... |
Re: CCW problems
No offense but it sometimes feels like there is an unofficial census on GIM that makes me uncomfortable. I don't like a compilation of GIMers personal info that the gov might want to know. Just my HO.

Re: CCW problems
I know that CCW are state issued but I am just saying my 2 cents.

Re: CCW problems
I understand your concern...if you feel uncomfortable, don't respond.
I am sure every govt agency that wants to know has access to CCW info. Years ago, I had a class 3 weapon. Background check, complete set of prints, and I am sure that info still resides in some database in Wash. DC. twenty years after I sold it... For the record I am a certified NRA instructor, CCW holder, Glock armorer, firearms owner of record...Not much chance of "flyin' under the radar" at this point...if they want me they will have to come and get me.:smokin: I lived in CA during the 80's...saw the infamous "assault weapons ban" inacted...(one of the reasons I left)..saw AR-15's rocket to $2500 or more in the South Bay area...and dozens of people standing in line to buy them. Several years after the ban went into affect authorities estimate 97% NON-COMPLIANCE with the ban... You need to get out of Kalifornia and move to a more gun friendly state...like a few million of your fellow Californians...might help to ease your paranoia...:D By the way how are the fires doing in your area? Peace. Stay safe. |
Re: CCW problems
I have a CCW permit and I carry. Schools and government buildings are off-limits, of course, but I'm armed everywhere else I go.
